The Sony Open In Hawaii KJ Choi

Congratulations 2009 Sony Open in Hawaii Champion Zach Johnson!

Zach Johnson posted a final round 5-under 65 to capture the Sony Open in Hawaii by two strokes over Adam Scott and 2006 Sony Open Champion David Toms. Johnson’s victory makes it three straight years with a PGA TOUR victory; a great way to begin his 2009 season. “The worst part of Hawaii is leaving," Johnson said to laughter and applause as he accepted the tournament trophy.

Tadd Fujikawa, the 18-year-old from Honolulu trying to become the youngest winner in PGA TOUR history, maintained a share of the lead late Saturday and started the final round just two shots out of the lead. The High School senior energized the local crowd, attracting an attendance increase for the final two rounds by over 40% above the 2008 tournament, but struggled in the final round slipping to a tie for 32nd.

Golf and Hawaii are a perfect match for professionals and fans alike! Against the backdrop of Koko Crater and the vast Pacific Ocean, the Sony Open kicks off the PGA TOUR season each January in Honolulu. Over $1,000,000 is raised annually through the efforts of Friends of Hawaii Charities and charity partner The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc. benefiting Hawaii's women, children, elderly and needy.
